History of Success
UVV began building this
history of success in April 1975 when it created the Educational Society of the
Espírito Santo, sponsor of the institution. The initiative starts with the
educator of great prestige in the Capixaba academic community, Professor Aly da
Silva, a former professor of Federal University of Espírito Santo (Ufes), leader
of the process of federalization of Ufes and former director of the
School
of Economic Sciences - an institution
that preceded the Federal
University.
On April 12, 1976, the institution was authorized
to operate by the Federal Council of Education. The approval decree for
operation is No. 77,421 of April 12, 1976 and was published in the Official
Gazette on April 13, 1976.
The biggest University
Center in Espírito Santo has come true by action of President Fernando
Henrique Cardoso, who in early 2001 signed a decree that transformed UVV in
University
Center, an intermediate step on the way to
university status.
Currently, UVV is the largest University Center of
Espírito Santo. It offers 45 undergraduate courses (15 Short-Term Courses and 30
undergraduate degree), plus graduate programs (26 Postgraduate and 4 Master
degree programs). In its four campuses - in Boa Vista (Vila Velha), Praia da
Costa (Vila Velha), UVV Vitória and Guaçuí, southern state – there are more than
500 teachers and more than eleven thousand students, who have the most modern
resources in different areas, qualified teachers and an audacious educational
policy.
UVV has the largest private library of the State, which
is more modern after the expansion of its facilities seeking greater comfort to
the academic community. The Library is fully computerized, with consultation and
online loan renewal of its collection that has about 93 thousand books. The
collection also has a section for rare books.
Achievements
UVV is still the best Capixaba performing
institution in Brazilian sporting history, winning in Sao
Paulo the title of bichampion of South America,
and in Goias, the title of bichampion Brazilian university on soccer field. UVV
is also eight times champion of Espírito Santo University Games (Junes).
Another important achievement was the creation of
the Center for gymnastic activities coordinated by Professor Monica Queiroz,
chosen by the Brazilian Confederation of Gymnastics to train the whole Brazilian
rhythmic gymnastics team. At this Center works UVV project of rhythmic
gymnastics, which promotes free training for the community. The project revealed
UVV talents such as the Olympic athlete Tayanne Mantovanelli, Pan American Games
medalist at the
Dominican Republic.
Another revelation is athlete Ana Paula Ribeiro, Brazilian four times champion
in rhythmic gymnastics.
